title or registration not needed for used travel trailer?

Do you need a title for a travel trailer.

We are trying to buy a used camper and the seller says he cant find the title.

But our friend says that a travel trailer doesn't need a title.

Anybody know? How can I find our for sure?

thanks

  • In the state of Nevada, yes, you need a title because it needs a license plate. We would go through the lost title process. But Blangen gave you the best answer. Contact your local DMV.
  • If it had a title at one time you can bet it needs one now
    Your friend is badly mistaken
  • You may want to ask on the TT section. Maybe a modirator will move this post over there for you.
  • A travel trailer has a state or provincial plate, it may be a one time registration like here in quebec
But when you sell you have to transfer the registration ( this is a security you know you are buying from the owner)
Here in quebec TC are registered the pickup plate goes for the camper
You may have to pay a sale taxe
    Gaetan
  • If it has an axle, you have to pay road tax in a form of license tabs or perminent registration. that is how it is in Minnesota. sorry, I guess that does not answer your question about the title.
  • I guess you would need the rest of the story. How old is the trailer? Where are you going with it? Etc.
I had a 1979 pop up for close to 4 years I just recently sold. I never got the ownership either. When the buyer asked for it I told him the story and left it to him to decide if he still wanted the trailer.
However if you're getting something newer to insure and haul around you'd want it
  • We sure need one around here.
Your seller should be able to "apply for a lost title".
