Its still an option. When I carried my camper on my 2WD Chevy it sat a lot lower. I did my trailer tongue with a step-down section under the camper so it cleared.
It doesn't have to be straight. It was kinda' low to the ground but it was never a problem.
I redid it straight after I went back to using a 4WD truck.
