I use SuperLube Synthetic Grease on the ball. It comes in a 3 oz. squeeze tube and is clear. I put a light film on the ball before coupling and wipe it off after uncoupling, so there is no grease that can get on us or the pooches. It seems to clean up much easier than standard greases.
