Today's complicated vehicles

Lot's of squawking about complicated technology on today's vehicles -

Let's play "What would be the ideal classic tow vehicle of yesteryear? You know, The Good Old Days..." :)
A few rules:

1. Emissions and human health - not my problem. Emission control not required.

2. It needs to tow my 16000 lbs 3 bedroom 5th wheel at 60 mph up 6% while averaging 10 mpg throughout western US and Canada, or double tow a jeep behind as well, at no less than 50 mph...

3. Or haul my 4000lbs 2 slide camper

4. No fancy DL's needed

5. Never needs plugs or points...

6. Starts at 0F without a block heater...

What would be your perfect from the dream time tow vehicle vs today's troublesome trucks?
  • Half worn out Volvo 610 with 500,000 miles on the clock at less than half the cost of a new pickup, however the slide in camper is a problem! Double/triple towing is not an issue.

  • You couldn't get me to tow with the antiquated, no power, trouble prone stuff of yesteryear. I will admit that some of those did LOOK really nice and style is lacking in some of our modern selections.
  • i had a 1963 dodge power wagon that would pull a house-4 speed old style 318-heater was dealer installed-4.56 gears made 60 to 65 about max-I loved the "BASIC" truck aspect-I ended up selling it like a dummy-whsk

The truck your describing doesn't exist in yesteryear... it exists today because of the troublesome systems you mention. Maybe I do not understand the question?

I believe it is posted using sarcasm. ie, telling those who complain about todays trucks, to tell what old tow vehicle is better.
