Took the plunge

Well , I took the plunge and bought a TT, a 2015 Jayco Eagle 338RETS, and had it delivered to me here in Texas. I'm working a construction job here and living in it currently, but ultimately I'd like to get a TV which can handle this beast, and maybe camp in it from time to time. "Maybe", because my wife and I don't exactly see eye to eye. I have camped my whole life, and love it, my wife pictures this more of a lets get a lot in the mountains and put this on it. If she gets her way, I may just have to keep my 2012 pop-up for roaming! Wanted to post pics, but cannot seem to figure out how, maybe later! Anyhow, I am quickly becoming a pro RV'er, at least it feels that way, I was unsure of myself doing anything to this beast in the first month, but now I've dealt with frozen lines, putting on a hard piped sewer line, flushing black tanks, using city water and on-board water tank systems, levelling, blocking stabilizers etc. Of course once I get to cocky, I'll find something that'll put me back in the fearful unsure mode again!

East Stroudsburg, know the area well. Grew up in Delaware, use to ski in the poconos, and loved camping in Promised land SP as well as others in the pocono area. I've also stayed in CG's over closer to the Delaware River and took day canoe trips on the DE, nice river (Nation Scenic River Designation), terrible private party CG's all along the banks though ... they really cater to the partying public, not the nature loving, canoe all day sleep all night, get up early public.

Promised Land State Park. Pickerel Point. Full hookup site

I lived in the area over 35 years. Moved here at age 5, did it all, want my kids to do it too. The public campgrounds cater to city folk. The state parks the Eco groups. I went to Kutztown university. BS env bio, and work in biopharma.
  • I have a friend who has pulled one so much he wore out two sets of tires. From Texas to Newfoundland, Florida, California, Washington state, Alaska and back several times. (Over 50,000 miles in 3 years).

He uses a Ram 3500 dually.

He and his wife love it.

Never had a problem finding space to camp in state and national parks - but did have to be somewhat selective. There are campgrounds he can't use, but a little research finds great alternatives.

    Enjoy.

I would have liked to get one - but it was a bit above our budget.
  • Congrats on the purchase! Love to see pictures. Best way to do that is to use a free online service (like Google Plus) and just link them here. As for your wife, start out slow, showing her in small chunks how fun camping/RVing can be and maybe you'll just win her over. :)
  • Wow, I just looked up that floorplan and had to double-check it wasn't a Fiver. Lots of space and a great ceiling height. They didn't even skimp on the bed size.

At least if you talk her into "camping" she'll be doing it in style.
  • Any 250-2500 gas would work fine. You don't sound like you'll be traveling the U.S very soon so a diesel isn't needed.

  • Big campers like that are not to easily camped in state and national parks or small sites at conventional resorts. Keep the pup Basecamp/workcamp in the beast.
