- Buzzcut1Nomad IInever needed one on my 48" long super truss
- NEOKExplorerI have a 32" SuperTruss and have never needed a skid wheel.
- Reddog1Explorer IIIf it is a add on part, I suggest trying without it, and if you decide you need it then add.
Wayne - jimh406Explorer IIII would need one to get in my driveway! Seriously though, it depends on how big of transition you think you might go over. Worse case you drag it through instead of rolling through.
It depends on how low your hitch is. My '06 SRW seemed higher than my '10 DRW. - _DJ_1Explorer II

Not necessarily. :)
I have a 36 inch Super Truss. In turning around in Upper O'brien NF campground in Idaho I actually lifted the rear wheels enough to loose traction and could not move! Thank goodness for 4-wheel drive. The area I was turning around in was all asphalt. Never budged the Super Truss or Hitch. Those suckers are really strong. - trail-explorerExplorer

Ditto.
My Weight Distributing hitch, or the torsion bars on it bottoms out long before the hitch will, so a wheel wouldn't help there.
I've left some road rash in driveways. - trail-explorerExplorer

I think I would rather keep dragging it vs further reducing clearance with a wheel which would increase the negative pressure against the hitch.
Good point.
Heavy AF camper on a heavy truck.
The skid wheel reduce the clearance more, and I am sure that something will bend before the truck lifts enough with the wheel rolling on the ground to help the situation. Leverage! - hedgeExplorerI bought one but never installed it as things changed and I rarely tow anymore.
My thinking was to keep it from digging when going backwards as it comes close on my driveway. Never installed so can't say if it would work or not.
If you install it a bit forward it wouldn't reduce clearance at all as you could have it hit just a 1/4" or so before the end of the hitch does. (of course dependent on the angle of approach)
