- wilber1ExplorerI use tow haul a lot on my 2011 Dodge and find it useful, most of the time. At other times, it can be too aggressive when it comes to shifting down on down grades. When the truck has an exhaust brake it becomes much more effective when the RPM goes up after a downshift and you can end up going much slower than you wanted. When it does, I switch tow haul off and use the ERS to control down shifts. My opinion. It's a tool and if it's doing what you want, use it, if not, switch it off and do it yourself.
- larry_barnhartExplorerI cannot understand if any body feels they don't need the tow haul mode when towing. Friend just told me he does use his but not all of the time. Then he said I really don't know what it does. I tried to explain but I ended the story in the middle because he wasn't interested enough to listen.
chevman - SandSOrrellExplorerI like the exhaust brake too. I turn it on any time the tow/haul is on. Gonna put it to the mountain test next month on our trip west and north.
- Atom_AntExplorerWhy not use it?
After restarting and heading down the road I can tell almost immediately when I forgot to put it in tow haul. The integrated brake control and transmission downshift is not nearly as effective if it's not on. - BB_TXNomad

Whenever I am towing the tow/haul mode is ALWAYS on...
Same here.
And it also works great on steep winding mountain pass roads even when not towing. Reduces shifting while slowing and speeding up on curves while climbing. And the associated engine brake feature maintains speed going down without having to use your brakes. - Charlie_D_Explorer

I always (try to) remember to use T/H, even on flat runs. If I forget (and have a couple of times) DW reminds me. LOL I've found in my Chevy D/A it helps to slow you down on the ramps as you exit the freeway. Downshifts a little earlier as you slow - saves on braking some.
How about that exhaust brake. I really like it. Forgot about turning it on until I was ready to exit. Between it and the TH, I came very close to a complete stop without the brakes. - TakingThe5thExplorerI miss it when I forget to turn it on. I haul 12k and it helps with higher shift points for accelerating, more aggressive downshifts for braking, all with no real impact on fuel economy. It's my buddy when I'm in the hills, both uphill and down. My engine seldom strains and my brakes seldom heat up.
- nremtp143ExplorerOn both my Allison and my TorqueShift, I always use the T/H button. It was designed to lock up the TC for pulling which helps in several ways, but the one thing I love about both is the downshifting when slowing down. You don't have to use near the braking you do when it is disengaged. So yes, I always use the T/H button.
- RedAceExploreron my Ram tow haul raises the shift points.
- 83trekkerExplorerAlways on when i tow, gives my Allison higher shift points.
