tow mirrors

I bought an 04 Ford F150 XTS yesterday and i'm looking into getting some extension mirrors that i'm assuming that i'm going to need for towing my TT.Are there any particular brands that are better then others?Do i want to get snap on or strap type?
  • X2 on the OEM replacements. I just replaced the factory mirrors on my GMC with towing mirrors. About $250 and less than 2 hour install. Nice look, no shake and great viewing area.Bonus was I gained signals in the mirrors. If you drive longer distances and camp more than 6 times a year, I would say the investment is worth it. Its nice to know what's behind your vehicle or what your pulling around.
  • I've had 2 sets of Cipa custom fit mirrors and I've used several of the clip ons. The clip ons suck. The Cipa and the Fit System are the most cost effective if they make ones that fit your truck. I paid $45 for my current set of Cipa mirrors.

Wow! Those are ugly AND expensive!
  • For under $200 you can get some OEM clones off Ebay with out power/heat. $210 for Power/heat/signal.

Otherwiese, CIPA or Fit System. I had the CIPA style on my prior truck and the Fit on my current. The Fit looks nicer and scratch less for the same amount of mirror size. But they both pale in comparison to OEM mirrors and their clones.
  • I bought a pair of strap on mirrors that worked well with the oval mirrors on my previous truck. They do not stay on the square mirrors of my new truck as the wind and vibration will shake them off without the addition of a small bungee cord to anchor them in place.
  • We've had McKesh for several years and DH is pleased with them. Suggest you also invest in the convex round mirrors that are available to go with them....terrific.

  • I had CIPA snap-ons for years until I got this new truck with integrated extensions, I was very happy with them. Make sure you get the ones that go over existing mirrors than look semi-custom, not the ones with straps. They cost about $50 if I remember right.
