Plenty of capable low mile 1/2 or 3/4 ton gassers in the sub $30k range with a crew cab. Not much for 1 ton gassers, but know whether its a 3/4 or 1 ton, it's the same truck and 3/4 tons outnumber 1 tons by a huge margin.
That said, a 3/4 ton is not necessary, by any stretch, but it is a luxury and never hurts to have more truck than you need.
