Jeeps tend to be short in the wheel base.

towed with my WJ (2002 grand Cherokee) for several years (see sig) and did ok. It was always a payload battle though and the F150 I replaced it with is infinitely better at it. I'd be looking at well equipped half tons if I were you

Barrette, my 2017 has a 8,400 limit, 1,595 payload and the TT loaded is 5,200/5,300 with 22 foot box and 26 overall but I agree with you. More than I have...time for a more heavy duty TV.

JGC is a fine tow rig outfitted right, up to around 5klbs for a TT maybe a bit more, in my opinion.
Wheelbase schmeelbase if you have all the trailer nannies (wdh, sway, stability/sway control in the Jeep).
I'd get the Jeep if that's what you want. It will do fine. Personally I like a truck for towing and well , everything else. Jeep will be a bit better in the city but a super short bed cc pickup isn't very onerous either.

The Grand Cherokee's towing limits are a little over 7000 pounds. The receiver limit is right around 750 pounds, which is about 6000 pounds loaded and 5000 pounds dry. With 750 pounds of TW, you need to be careful of how much weight is inside the cabin before exceeding the payload, which my understanding is under 1200 pounds.

Cost wise, a crew cab half ton is about the same for similar equipment in a mid sized SUV, hold it's value far better, and will tow with proper equipment much more comfortably.

To the OP:

Pay attention to what sch911 says. He's a Jeep engineer and knows what he's talking about.

I pulled a TT for a couple of years with my 2014 JGC with the V6 engine with no problems.

There are advantages to my TT's inexpensive lock...you lock it with the key so you can't lock the key inside.

Also keep in mind that the JGC is limited to 55 square feet trailer frontal area.

Congratulations and good choice. The Airstream is a wide trailer and just the extra width of full size truck plus tow mirrors will make your towing experience safer and more enjoyable.
