Tow with Chevy Bolt?

But the Bolt owner's manual makes it pretty clear:

Well it appears that your going to go ahead with this idea of towing with a vehicle that isn’t designed for this. Keep in mind that if you are involved in an accident with this vehicle and someone is injured, lawyers are going to have a field day with you. Also if you damage this leased vehicle because of the towing, you will also be on the hook for the damages.:S

It looks like you will be the pioneer. I say go for it. As a back up throw a little honda genny in the coach. Keep us posted

Hey Lance. Many EV’s come with an EVSE that plugs into a standard 14-50 stove plug. Adapters are available to plug into pretty much any receptacle. But the car itself always plugs into the EVSE. The EVSE is essentially a fancy extension cord that has a safety disconnect device that checks for certain conditions before connecting. In the early days all EVers travelled with a whole whack of adapters but the charging infrastructure is quite built out now so not near as necessary. We still travel with our “go bag” though.

There was another YouTube channel, Transport Evolved, who discusses the topic of towing with EV, including the Bolt, as well...in case anyone is interested. I may decide on a different trailer as I found a number of other good options, many of which are lighter.

If you wouldn’t mind keeping us informed that would be great. We are considering pulling an Aljner with an Eplus or model Y Tesla at some point. Couple years away but you might learn a couple things along the way you could share.

I found the TFL videos last night after posting and was surprised to learn that there is actually a 2" hitch made for the Bolt. There was another YouTube channel, Transport Evolved, who discusses the topic of towing with EV, including the Bolt, as well...in case anyone is interested. I may decide on a different trailer as I found a number of other good options, many of which are lighter.

This should end the question about towing. But, it sounds like the OP is determined to use a Bolt as a tow vehicle.

Agree. Not sure why the OP didn't go to the Bolt forum that gbopp posted about, if they wanted feedback from other Bolt owners.
Asking this kind of question, on a RV basis where no one would consider using a Bolt to tow with, will not get any positive feedback. Especially when the Bolt manual says NOT to.
My wife has a Suzuki SX-4, which also has a warning NOT to tow. But you can find hitch receivers for them, on the Internet. Doesn't mean you should tow with it.

This seems very similar to the fact you can find trailer hitches that attach to the bumper on trailers, but that doesn't mean they are safe to use. Just because something can be done doesn't mean it should be done.

Meh. He’s from New York. Decent charging infrastructure there. Besides, he may be camping at a campsite with services.

TFL did a towing mpg test with the Tesla if ones interested in how detrimental it is to range.
