Went from diesel to gas (ford 6.2) towing 8k tt; and I regret it. Don't mind the high rpms, but very slow uphill climbs, about 8 mpg overall, and no engine brake.
Can't imagine what it would be like towing anything heavier.
Go with the diesel; just take good care of it.
