Towed my 7K ( some would say light) TT with both a heavily modified 99 Tahoe ~320hp/400 ft lbs and 2000 F350 diesel 7.3 with mods ~350hp/700 ft lbs tow tune.
Screaming up the mountain in second gear WOT 4500 rpm maxing at 45 mph or same climb at 75 mph with the diesel at 2700 rpm.
One of the great deciding factors is altitude. Diesels are turbo so losses at altitude are minimal, unless the gasser is turbo you will be hurting if you drive in the mountains over 5000 ft and higher.
