Towing mods with cabover

If you search past posts on putting a TC made for a LB on a SB, you will find two factors. One the Center of Gravity shoot (or must be) in front of the axle. Two what is your payload compared to the wt of the TC.

I have a 825 Lance on a F250, you could get a 18 inch extension that would work find. I think a eagle cap 850 would be to heavy for your truck.

Thank you old days, that's the kind of information I was looking for. What do you use for a hitch extension? The eagle cap Jas a dry weight of 2400 which seemed like it's still within but pushing the limits.

An 825 on a long bed wouldn't need an extension so I'd assuming he has a shortbed but looking at his profile it appears he has the shortbed.

Take the tailgate off.
You will want to extend the ball behind the camper. It allows you to turn sharper, go thru "dips" better, and it's easier to hitch and un-hitch.
For a short extension like an 18" then most any extension rated for the weight will work. If you need something long like 24" or more I would use the TorkLift Super Hitch and Super Truss.
When I towed my 4,500 pound boat behind my truck camper I started with a Curt 48" extension in the factory 2.5" receiver. It worked. When I changed to a dually truck with only a 2" receiver I decided to upgrade to the Super Hitch rather than just change to a 2.5" receiver. The Super Hitch is a much stronger device with much less play. It also has a larger tongue weight rating and a larger tow rating. Not that you need them but it's nice to know you have the extra capacity.
No matter what you do, you will be over the GVWR of this truck. If you can stay under tire and axle ratings you will be fine. You will likely need air bags, HD shocks, maybe a rear sway bar, etc.

A Lance 825 is made for a shortbed truck. A 18 inch extension does work as long as it is not to big of a boat or trailer. The eagle cap 850s that I have seen are the slide out kind and the dry weight starts at 2900 pounds or more. We have been looking at a lot of camper that I can use on my truck and the slide out ones are heavy.

If you do buy a Lance 825 you will need about 2 and a half inches of wood up front so the camper does not touch the rear lights of the F250 truck. Also when buying a Truck camper don't believe the weights on the website. Look in side the cabinet of each camper or the sticker on the back. My 825 is about 2800 to 3000 pounds when loaded and ready to go.

Try to find a camper that doesn't have any drop down in the overhang behind the truck bed, rather flat at bed height. This allows for an overall shorter hitch extension. You have a 2.5 or 3" receiver, correct?
Just use the minimum length soild draw bar extension IMO. I've towed our X2, similar weight and load as your Sanger with 12" extension, shorter bed 6-4 on our dodge and camper is 8-9 effectively 9' because it's spaced back a couple extra inches.
Only thing I couldn't do was full Jack knife to 90 deg w the trailer. Carried another slip in extension in case I had to back it around a tight corner.
Tailgate on or off? I do either depending if I need the tailgate when I get there.
If you're 8-8.5' camper with ford short bed you may not need much hitch extension.

Be aware that dry weight means a basic empty camper...No fridge, range, mattress etc... Probably going to be closer to 3500 wet and no belongings.
