- CampingN_C_ExplorerPossible hitch failure? Those were the year models that had some OEM hitch issues. There's been some documented on here over the years.
Even with the pin unlatched, the tongue coming off the ball would be odd, especially with a WDH hitch in place. The guys at my dealer move trailers around with a forklift that has a ball on it, they never get off the lift. - nineoaks2004ExplorerThat would be a reason to check your hook up and make sure the padlock is on..
It would be a bad (and embarrassing) position to be in.. - Boon_DockerExplorer III

YEAH.....popped off ball
Now trailer tongue is jammed up under rear axle, propane cylinders are embedded into tailgate and battery shorted
Yet with all that propane and sparking NO FIRE :S
The frig wasn't running on propane that is why no fire. :B - Old-BiscuitExplorer IIIYEAH.....popped off ball

I'm not even sure how that's even possible. I'm guessing it wasn't hitched properly and came loose, which is how it came in contact with the back of the truck. Seems like an odd incident, but certainly not one I'd like to be a part of. Luckily it happened when NOT on the highway.
Agree...it popped off the hitch and rolled forward because of the driveway slope...then crashed into the rear of the truck.
Hitch ball was not seated properly in the tongue or was not locked down.
I feel bad for the guy. lucky it didn't jump out on the freeway at 60+ mph. - FrankShoreExplorer
