Towing report

I just got back from a 1500 mile trip, pulling the 5er about 1100 of those miles.

The set up is as below in the pic, and the 5er is 37' and weighs around 11500#. I have weighed it several times.

Truck mods include a 4" exhaust with muffler (no cat), and a Hypertech programmer set on level 2 out of 3. Intake is stock with the 4" pleated paper air filter.

I checked the mpg over 5 tanks during which the whole fuel load was used to tow. The terrain was mostly flat with some mountain passes at the end, and there wasn't much wind (rare).

Tank 1: 21.58L/100km = 10.90 mpg (USA gal)
Tank 2: 21.42L/100km = 10.98 mpg
Tank 3: 20.45L/100km = 11.50 mpg
Tank 4: 21.06L/100km = 11.17 mpg
Tank 5: 19.69L/100km = 11.95 mpg

Gcw (truck & trailer) is about 21000#

If your combination weight is 21,000 and your trailer weighs 11,500 of that then your SRW truck weighs 9,500 lbs? That seems a little steep even for a dually let alone SRW. The reason I bring this up is lately I am seeing a lot of people say their trailer weighs Y and their combination weight is Z but Z-Y= a number that seems too large for just the truck. Is everybody simply taking the trailer axle weight and saying that is the actual trailer weight?

Must include pin weight as that truck should only weight around 7,500# unless there is a aux fuel tank or something in the bed.

My F350 is 8,200# 39 gal fuel and people (800#) loaded to go. I gross 20,000# and get 10-12 mpg depending upon terrain in Tow/Haul mode.
  • Well I just got back also IB. I was right at 22k after importing some products from Cali :W but mine wasn't as nice as yours. I finally got a gas app on the phone and boy is that DIC off. About 2000 miles total towing and 987 bobtailing. These were my numbers in US gallons .
    15.73

Oregon coast highway into the Redwoods and back through Bend. Pretty good passes like Deadmans, Cabbage hill and Lewiston grade. Not sure if rain matters but the 9.95 was a total pull in the rain.

  • That is terrific mileage towing nearly 6 tons!

My F250 sees those kind of mpg- in heavy-footed city driving (NOT towing) LOL

    Awesome pic BTW
