Suggest he read the fine print in his owners manual. That 1000 lbs tow capacity does not include room for any passengers or cargo in the tow vehicle. As people and cargo are loaded into the vehicle, it's max tow capacity and it's capacity to carry hitch weight, are going down pound for pound.
