Towing with 2008 Honda Civic

My son has a 2008 Honda Civic sedan, and wants to tow an 825 lb Pop Up camper. The Civic manual says it will tow 1000 lbs, and the trailer is under on the hitch weight too. Anyone have any real world experience with towing with small cars, and have an opinion on this setup? It won't be thru the mountains, or any really big hills. Thanks in advance.
  • Suggest he read the fine print in his owners manual. That 1000 lbs tow capacity does not include room for any passengers or cargo in the tow vehicle. As people and cargo are loaded into the vehicle, it's max tow capacity and it's capacity to carry hitch weight, are going down pound for pound.
  • It may be within is tow rating, but i think asking a 9 yr old civic to tow anything is asking a lot. I would be worried about the transmission and rear uni body structure under the strain of the weight. I'd also be worried about stopping it with the civic brakes.

I'm afraid I'd not recommend it
