Towing with a 3.73 F250 6.2L, will a 4.30 axle help ??

you got the right plan. Glad to see you did not get locked into the ozone layer.

Getting back to your test pull. Here is a thought. I have looked as at charts on engine rpm and speed with the 3.73 compared to the 4.30. So your 3.73 in 5th will be very close to the 4.30 in 6th. So if you are on the ragged edge of maintaining 6th on the flat land, consider just running it in 5th.

Do a little experimenting.
