A 4.30 axle will not give you more horsepower! Even with the 4.30 you will still have to wind your engine into 5000 rpm territory as you do with the 3.73 to pull the same hill with the same trailer at the same speed.
Um.......no!
All other factors the same a 4.30 ratio truck will out pull a 3.73 ratio truck on hills and high headwinds.
I guess the 1st factor to consider is will it pull $2500.00 better on a truck with a 6 speed transmission?
All other factors the same the torque applied through the axles to the drive wheels will always be multiplied 4.3 times vs 3.73 times regardless of transmission speeds. More transmission ratios let the engine stay near it's maximum power output. The better the engine's "torque rise" (resistance to deceleration under load) the fewer transmission speeds it needs.
as far as $ factor it's kind of "4 'payments' and I own it again" vs
change out the truck and have X payments to make and enjoy other features and equipment.
