A 4.30 axle will not give you more horsepower! Even with the 4.30 you will still have to wind your engine into 5000 rpm territory as you do with the 3.73 to pull the same hill with the same trailer at the same speed.
Um.......no!
All other factors the same a 4.30 ratio truck will out pull a 3.73 ratio truck on hills and high headwinds.
Not true that is what a transmission is for.
The transmission is used to match the engine rpm to the load. As was pointed out this ford will have very close the same final gear ratio in 6th gear with a 4.3 as it would have in 5th gear with the 3.73. With your thinking why not put a 6.3 gear in and have twice the power. Sorry but gears do not change the horsepower and it is horsepower that gets things up the hill. There is nothing wrong with running in 3rd, 4th, or 5th gear if that is what is required to get the engine rpm where it is needed for the speed that is run. The 6.2 Ford has max hp just above 5000 rpm. Max economy is probably about 2000 rpm as is most gas engines today.
