There are so few F150's with the 3.7 sold, and even fewer are being used as a towing platform. About half of the F150's get the 3.5 EcoBoost, many with the 5.0, and a smidgeon with the 6.2. The 3.7 is supposed to be a good engine, but its usually in the trucks that need to meet a certain price-point.
Let us know how it tows for you.
Oh, and that 7:52 Edmund video.... generally worthless. 7 minutes of fluff, 50 seconds of opinions, and about 2 seconds worth of real facts. What is the value of a comparison of base V-6 engines that very few use as a tow platform in either the Ford or Fiat-Ram?
My guess is that those full size V6 trucks get better hwy mileage than the V6 small trucks. It would be nice to have a full size truck that gets the same mpg as a V6 Tacoma or Frontier. I know my 06 V6 Frontier barely broke the 22 mpg range. It had a 6500lb tow rating and was a dog towing 4050lbs. I would imagine that the F150 or Ram 1500 and even the new GM V6 1500 would out tow the Tacoma and Frontier. Not everyone needs a truck to tow 11,000lbs with. They would make great commuter trucks that are perfectly capable of towing 4-5000lbs.
