Your truck is late model compared to mine. I have a 1997. Happens to be a diesel 1 ton but irregardless of that. Old or new, it's all about maintenance.
Things like hoses and belts people tend to forget about until they fail on the road in the middle of nowhere and it costs you a bundle to get them repaired.
I change ALL my hoses every 10 years no matter what. Same with belts. My engine takes a single serpentime belt and I only run Gates Green Fleetrunner belts. Cost more but compared to an average belt, no comparison. Same with hoses, Gates premium, always.
My transmission gets a fluid change and filter every other year as well, no matter how little miles I drive, and oil gets changed every 5K miles and I use premium synthetic always and a new filter (oil is cheap). I also run a cartridge water filter on my engine just because.
Chassis get greased every oil change and I keep up on all the fluid levels and tire pressures too.
The older they get, the more you need to be aware that things wear out and fail.
Just did a complete brake job including rear axle seals, shoes, new wheel cylinders brake hardware and self adjusters on the rear, new calipers, pads and rotors on the front.
I'm not trusting of any commercial mechanic, I do all my own work and I'm 68 so being old is no excuse because I can do it just fine and that includes mounting and balancing tires too.
Good friends with Rock Auto....lol
