I just do regular maintance on mine about ever 3,000 miles and heavy maintance like changing rear end fluid and transmission oil once a year. Like SidecarFlip I use Gates Green Fleetrunner.
Last May in Jackson,Wy a few people asked if I drove all the way from California in that old truck and my reply was Yes I did with my toy hauler behind it. After that a few offered to buy the truck of course. I also saw a early 70s Chevy (has the vertical side marker lights) inside Yellowstone that had Mississippi plates on it!
You already know I have a truck camper but I pull a trailer with me (for the quads) too and Anytime I stop, I always attract gawkers that want to know how an old truck runs and I say 'just fine' and then comes the 'you want to sell it' and my answer is of course...no.
Like you, I know my truck inside and out and I can tell just by listening when it needs something. I can tell by the sound of the motor when oil change time is near. After 20 years, it's an extension of my senses. I'm 'tuned' into it.
Even though I live in Michigan, it's corrosion free. It gets garaged every winter and oiled underneath before storage.
Had no idea I'd keep it as long as I have but, I don't ever plan on replacing it.
