Thanks. So I think that the my TT purchasing chronicle is about over. 2005 Jayco JayFlight 29FBS, 7000lb unladen weight, 8800lb GVWR. My Expy has a max tow of 8700, so w/ that being said, I believe that I am going to be ok towing & maneuvering this one with the weights being as they are.
You need to check and see what your max tongue weight is. Both of ours (03,07) are limited to either 800 or 900 pounds I believe due not to the payload but rather the rear suspension. The trailer you are looking at would have over 900 lbs tongue weight dry at 13% and over 1100 lb fully loaded.
Other than the limited tongue weight I really like towing with ours. The 03 is slower up the really steep grades but I still prefer it. On the open road it is buttery smooth and I forget the trailer is back there. - DiskDoctrExplorer

Here's a similar discussion you may find interesting.

Once you go over 80% of your rated towing capacity, you have to be sure to have all your ducks in a row, it WILL handle differently.
IMHO, although SUVs are quite capable, I think you're going too heavy and won't enjoy the experience. Would I tow it? Maybe. Depends how far and the terrain. It would take special considerations to do it safely and under control.
As always, it's your call, but it will be hard to make those numbers add up in your favor. I'm sure someone will be along with the math soon ;) - AntonBExplorerThanks. - DiskDoctrExplorerBTW, be sure to consider your GCVW, especially with SUVs. Our 4Runner is 12k GCVW with about 4500lbs vehicle weight as configured (published is 4200, but some options add weight, so watch that, too)
Hope this helps. - qtla9111NomadWe tow a 2008 Funfinder 230DS 24ft double slide by Cruiser with our 2005 Dodge Durango Hemi with a tow weight of 8800 lbs. No issues and we love it. That said, to the owners of Trailmanors, I couldn't agree more. We have owned two TMs in the past; 2720SL and a 3326KS.
I would go back in a flash if I could. We towed both with a 98 Pathfinder V6 and for many, many years. MPG were the best towing and as boondockers it went everywhere. BTW, when we sold the Pathfinder, it had 465,000 kms. Hind sight is 20/20. - DiskDoctrExplorer

Yep it depends on what New SUV you get as to what TT you can tow. Anything less than an Expedition, or Suburban, and you need to get a popup, 18' max ultra lite. You option expand quickly with the Burb, or Expe.
Surprising and quite misleading advice from someone usually better with info. Not sure why the hate for SUVs?
In any case, I tow regularly with my 4Runner V8 Limited (rated @ 7k tow) at about 6000-6500 lbs with a full cargo area in SUV. A bit of lugging on the steep mountains, but never had a handling or braking issue.
I do use a Prodigy proportional brake controller and now have 10ply LT tires, oversized by 1in.
No bouncing, no sway (WDH with sway control), no problems. - 2012ColemanExplorer IITake a look at TrailManor Click on the Tow Ratings link.

Minimum to be added to a traditional TT with family of 4 would be approx. 12-1500 lbs! I'm at 2000 lbs because i have the room and a 4100 lb CCC.
Trailers can be found with a slideout in the 4500-5000lb dry range.
Good luck!
1500 pounds sounds like a lot. I know you may be correct though. But, Where does all that weight come from? I think if it were my wife and kids I'd tell them to throw some of the junk. Maybe that's why I'm not married and don't have any kids. lol.
Yep it doesn't seem like you would add alot, but after a few trips and "oh ya we'll need this and that", and then next year you'll find something else you need, along with "we'll just leave the blankets and pillows this year because "remember that one trip it got very cold" then don't forget your cookware and.............you can see how it all adds up. We also bring 4 bikes along. Oh and don't forget the 3 tube style TV's. And i have a full size hammok stand and hammok! And enough camp chairs for a small concert! More than enough leveling boards to camp on the side of a mountain. Plenty of hose and shore cable to be 100feet away from hookups (yes been there before).
An RV is like a KOA, Keep On Adding! LOL!
My Wife asked for camping cutlery for xmas from her family... the set must weigh 15 lbs all by itself, and I'm already at my CCC limit *shakes head* - AntonBExplorerYeah probably sounds about right, well maybe by then i'll have my F-250 Diesel Super Duty I always wanted. It would make for a good case to plead at least...LOL. You guys on this forum are great, thanks for the help & advice.
