Towing

My F450 is equipped with a stock class V hitch. Am I correct in that I would only need a TorkLift SuperTruss Extension Bar to be able to tow?

Thanks,

John

Why don't you look at the Reese 2 1/2" extensions. They offer one in 41"-48" length. I use one with stabilizing chains for my ATV trailer and it works great. I did remove my factory OEM hitch and replaced it with a Reese Titan hitch. There was a big difference in how much better the Reese was compared to the factory GM hitch.

I use this same extension and tow a trailer with 2-3 ATVs with it. I don't use stabilizing chains. Anyone care to share thoughts/opinions on using stabilizing chains?
  • Thanks.

I hope to flat tow (or dolly tow) a small vehicle. Looks like the Reese might be what I'm looking for rather than manufacturing my own. But I think I'd put a second set of stabilizer chains on it.

    What are you towing?

I used a Class V off a F450 and installed it on my F250 and used a 48" Reese extension (Like shown above). I towed a 2000lbs boat with no issues.

  • Thanks. I see that now looking at the Torklift hitch.

I currently am using a homemade extension of 2" rectangular tube stock to tow my kayak trailer. I have installed 2 stabilizing changes from the end of the extension back to the installed hitch and this arrangement works well for that application (negligible cargo and tongue weight). Could I install two more stabilizing chains to this arrangement and flat tow a small vehicle or would you suggest moving to 2 1/2" stock and fabricate an new extension? No need to go with the Torklift since I already have the class V hitch.
