So you have no place to store a camper, aka it will be on the truck full time?
To each his own, but it is a real chore commuting everywhere with a big white box humping your truck.....even if it's a smaller white box, lol.
If this is the route you're going, then absolutely find a HD pickup if the camper would be a permanent fixture. You'll just grind a little truck into the ground and it will be even more of a pain to drive around if the truck is marginal for carrying the camper.
Ext cab short box 250/2500 and a small hard side camper would be the best compromise for your uses, Imo.
Edit, but now you're ok with a popup too, so there are plenty that can be hauled on a 1/2 ton.
Still don't know how that works into your 4 adults in the same cab, but not a crew cab, and maybe a compact truck with a popup camper.
Think you need to prioritize as it sounds like a clown car with both the truck and the camper and 4 people.
