^^. Those are cool setups we just don't see here in the states!
(Save for the few old Toyota class C duallies that haven't migrated to the scrap yard yet.)
Now for 1-2 people that want to do some backcountry traveling and want a little more convienence and more self contained than a topper with tent and camp stove, a Tacoma or new Colorado/Canyon with a little popup like the 4wheel ones would be super cool and IMO the best combo of compact/no towing/off road capability.
But I still couldn't see leaving it on 24/7/365, living in the city, parked on the curb. Then again, I'm not in SoCal and my transportation needs/wants are significantly different.
Good luck with your search Yeti. I think you're looking for what I just described above, but will have to rethink your arrangements for 4 people.
Just tell one of your buddies to pony up for a rig too and don't mooch off you unless he wants to get packed inside the camper before you drop the top!
