Toyota tundra?

Nor will they ever get the ticket for your setup...cousin was a Sargent in the
Calif Highway Patrol and confirmed that they (his troopers) do stop RVs and
weigh them to ticket. He has quit that job because of too many accidents having
him pickup the pieces...it got to him after 5 years doing that

There is only one person responsible for the setup and that is the driver Who
might not be the one who chose and setup the whole thing

There is simply not enough information to make an educated decision here.

What model Tundra, what is your payload rated for?
The weight of the trailer, is that dry or gross?
What is the gross tongue weight?
How many people will be in the Tundra, how much gear will you pack in the bed?

The Tundra is a great truck and can easily handle up to the max payload rating. I'm sure it can handle substantially more than the max payload, but I don't encourage people to exceed there ratings.

A 2wd reg cab Tundra can have over 2000 lbs payload, a 4wd Crewmax can have as little as 1340 lbs payload. My Doublecab 6.5 foot bed 4x4 with the 5.7 has 1640 lbs payload.

The trailer might be gross weight at 7800, which means tongue weight of 1000 lbs. Figure 100 lbs for a good WDH and you are around 1100 lbs.

If its 2 people and a couple dogs, the Doublecab will have 500 lbs for the passenger, dogs and any gear.

OP, do your homework and check your numbers. If the math says the Tundra can handle it then you will have a great tow vehicle. I love my Tundra, it tows great and handles the weight with ease. Plenty of power, comfy, always feels solid when towing. If the weights are too high, you need to step up to a bigger truck.

If you do find that the numbers work for your Tundra, or any other 1/2 ton vehicle, I would encourage you to look closely at your tires. Most 1/2 tons come with car tires or weaker truck tires. My Tundra has E rated 10 ply tires which certainly helps it feel more stable. Towing a 30 or 31 foot trailer is right at the maximum length I would ever consider with a half ton. D or E rated tires will go a long way in making your tow vehicle feel more "planted" going down the road.

Good luck and be careful about the advice you get on the internet. A lot of people talk/write without really knowing what they are saying. Some of it is ignorance, some is stupidity, some is blind brand loyalty. You need to do the math yourself with real world numbers and make a decision based upon the facts.

I own a 2012 Tundra CrewMax 5.7 w/ tow package. The Tundra will pull it, but like others have said payload could be an issue. I tow a TT total length of 36 feet. Loaded I am pushing 8,800lbs. I am over my payload by about 350lbs when loaded for camping. Get a good WDH. I sit perfectly level with no sway and you could be good, however as a first trailer I would not recommend it, especially if that is your "dry" weight.

Ha ha ha! No not Lucy or desi but my husband is a big guy and hates crowded spaces . Although we are new to RV ing we've trailered a lot of boats and lived on a 40 ft Luhrs. If he can get that boat into a small slip maneuvering on water with gusts of wind I'm sure we can handle a TT. Don't be so discouraging.

We started with a Ford F-250 automatic with a 460 and a 28 foot travel trailer.

Our younger neighbors across from us have a 2006 Tundra with the 4.7.
They bought an 18 foot Wildwood TT to tow.
My neighbor tells me it's not enough truck for the trailer, wife, 2 kids, 2dogs, bed full of camping items.

I'm told the truck struggles on hills, shifts up and down when towing and gets really low fuel economy.

They don't like to go too far and are considering a heftier pick-up.

OK...I have a 2007 Tundra with the 5.7. I've used it to tow my 2002 Sunline TR-180 (30' overall length) that I just traded in, and I'm fairly sure that I was towing around 8,500 lbs. The truck handled it ok, but I also have a Hensley hitch....good weight distirbution and absolutely no sway. While the truck can handle it, I think I would be putting quite a strain on the truck to take it to the Rocky Mountains....which is on my bucket list. We just purchased a Winnie 2201DS with the intention of downsizing (just 2 of us) and getting the total trailer weight to less than 7,500 lbs. So...if the weight you gave is the GVWR, I suggest that you need more truck....3/4 ton or bigger.

There are some 28-30 foot trailers out there that check in around 7,600 lbs. or less if you look carefully. We chose the 2201DS because of the quality of the trailer, amount of storage, and outdoor kitchen. It was the best of anything we could find in a 2-3 hour drive from our house.

We started with a popup for one summer, went to a 23'8" TT, decided it was not fun to tow something that big and ended up with a 16 footer. YMMV.
