TPMS system on trailer

Who has added TPMS to their TT or other trailer?

Either as cap, or complete valve replacement, which system have you chosen?

How much did you pay?

What are the pro/cons of what you installed (your opinion of the system, not the pro/cons of TPMS)?

Has it ever saved you from a blow out? Or did a blow out occur while you had TPMS?
  • TST 507 on my 5er. External non-flow thru sensors. User replaceable batteries. Installed 2 1/2 yrs ago. Have never had a low tire, but definitely peace of mind to be able to see the pressures while driving.
  • Believe me, I searched TMPS and a number of combo's before searching.

Might I suggest doing the same, before suggesting such a generic search!!!

Thanks for the replies thus far!

How much did you pay? My initial system was a 10 tire (6 on the mh, four on the toad) unit from Pressure Pro. I then up graded to a 16 tire unit for our new coach (8 on the mh, four on the toad...and have 4 left over). Initial unit cost me about $550 and the new 16 tire monitor plus two more sensors cost me an additional $300. Not cheap!

What are the pro/cons of what you installed (your opinion of the system, not the pro/cons of TPMS)? Pro is total coverage of all tires that allows me to monitor the tires as I travel. Con is $$ invested. But, one blowout could possible cost me much more than the cost of the TPMS.

Has it ever saved you from a blow out? Or did a blow out occur while you had TPMS? Twice I've had tires on the motor home (previous coach) pick up nails that caused a slow leak. The TPMS alerted me to a low pressure situation given me ample time to pull over and get the tire fixed. Yes, I did have a blow on the the toad that was instantaneous with no loss of pressure prior to the blowout.

FWIW, for the purpose of evaluating a TPMS system, a mh and toad is basically the same thing as a tow vehicle and a trailer. I would highly recommend that you do a search on "TPMS". You'll find a whole bunch of information.

    Hope this helps

I've got the TST 507 system with external sensors and replaceable batteries. I think it was about $230 3 years ago. Love it, would not tow without it.

We put one on our trailer that we tow the jeep on, we had 3 tire failures prior to seeing the value of the set. we now watch the pressures much closer, and the system taught us how to figure the best pressure for our load. So has it saved us ? but the peace of mind helps.
  • Best thing I added. Saved me damage in October! Tireminder valve cap. Works well. I mounted the receiver on my back window behind me so if it goes off I can see in in my mirror and it is closest to the trailer without being outside.
