Trade or sell? SOLD!

Moderator: This is in no way a disguised ad for a truck.. I have a situation I need help with. I will try to be as general as possible Thanks.

I have a guaranteed $10k from a dealer as a trade-in for my truck. That sounds great, but, I'm in WA and he's in CO. Shipping the truck with a reputable company will cost $1800. Yes, that sounds expensive, but going cheaper is very scary according to my research, and, there's a time limit on the offer. I need timely dependable service way more than a cheap rate. My other option of driving it to him would be $600 in fuel plus 5-8 days hotels plus food, plane fare and hassle.

I can pass on his offer and try to sell it myself. Then I have the pleasure of dealing with people who don't show, don't have the money, try to bid me down.. etc etc. And, if it doesn't sell and I have to leave it here this winter ( I go south)I then start all over in the spring with a year-older vehicle. There may be a consignment lot nearby.. I don't know what they charge. Given that my net from the dealer is only $8200, it's darn hard for me to imagine my truck not fetching at least that price locally. The blue book is $10-12k, so I'm about right. Yes, I realize that's a very generous offer from the dealer.. let's don't go there. The problem is finding the right buyer, and, I have no idea how long that may take. Just because there's a book dollar value has little to do with this particular location and market base.

I live in farm country and I just think this truck would be perfect for that. However, what I think is perfect may just be overpriced and unnecessary to these farmers around here. I've seen many old overloaded pickups hauling hay thru town. I think if I take the dealer's offer then, sure enough, I'll start getting calls on the truck. And that won't be fun.

What would you do?
