Trailer Feels Heavier After Hauling for Period of Time

You are working with an old truck and an old trailer. I am assuming you are also using an old brake controller.

Personally, with your brake lights staying on when nobody is applying the brakes, you have an electrical gremlin. I would start with the brake controller. Replace it with a quality brake controller and see if you are having the same problems.
