I don't know if I agree with that but I don't have the exact transmission the OP does either. Tow/haul usually makes the transmission want to shift less often. Sometimes that means staying in a higher gear with the torque converter locked and the engine lugging some. The unlocked torque converter during shifts is what makes all of the heat.
