So, I have 2005 2500 sweet truck. I always maintain by the mfgs suggested timeframes. Seems like the consensus here is that this could be a problem on trucks that are not maintained. It also does not seem to be a huge expense to fix the problem. I love the truck. It pulls by 7500 Rockwood easily and is a comfortable ride. I was a bit concerned after reading the article, but after referring to the forum, my concerns have subsided. I will be vigilant and watch for any signs for the trouble.
Do you have all 6 original injectors on your 05?
I do in my 2004, injectors are not a problem in the Cummins. Want to talk 6.0 and 6.4 Post lol.
Don
Don, I'll talk injectors from my experience and my wallet:
6.0 PSD: Owned one with 170k miles and all original injectors
6.4 PSD: Never owned one
5.9 Cummins: Owned one that when purchased used had 3 out of 6 replaced. At ~120k miles replaced 3 of the last 3 original injectors. Only 1 was bad but replaced the other 2 since it was in the shop. If you ever here a cummins idling making a loud knocking noise it's a good chance it's being caused by a bad injector. BTDT.
