trailer noise

Just wondering if there is a lubricant anyone recommends for the shackles to quit down all the creeking noise it makes when pulling it around the campsite and making turns.
  • I will try the lube in the bars and shackles this week end. Thank you for the advice, always great to come on here and get the great advise from everyone.
  • Best advice is to put in "wet bolts" and bronze bushings (greasable) with the heavy shackles. See the Dexter sticky at the top for the HD suspension and EZ Flex. My trailer would wake up the dead when pulling into a campground. Did the upgrade-very modest price and about a one to one and a half day job for one person. Dead quiet now and pulls much better. Worth the time to read the thread and the money to do the upgrade. Dexter Link
  • Um,, no. I have the noise too and mine comes from the hanger kit mounted between the 2 axels. There is no plastic bushings, just bolts stuck through piece of pipe. I've found that a drop of oil twice a year on all the points where anything can move helps a lot. But, once the oil wears out the noise comes back.
  • I had that as well. I put some ball lubricant grease on the weight distribution bars where they lock into the hitch and all the noise went away. I thought it was the suspension on the trailer.

    Good luck,

  • The bushings that are at the end of your springs are only plastic and are the cause of the squeaks you hear when trailers bounce along. They wear out. So that may also be what you are hearing.

  • Usually it comes from the hitch, sway control type. If there any kinda lube at friction points. But it cuts down on control some.
  • Yes, remove those bolts and plastic sleeves, and install wet sleeves with a zerk fitting to grease periodically.
