Trailer weight capacity/axle weight capacity

Placard says trailer weight capacity is 3675 Lbs .. Single Axle rating max says 3500 lbs. How can a manufacturer say that the trailer maximum weight capacity is more than the one axle equipped rating capacity. ?The industry allows this ??
  • Less likely it will happen in the RV business. The volume isn't there.

Doesn't the RV business brag about selling 500,000 units in a year? That almost a drop in the bucket WRT the auto industry.

Thanks oops forgot about the tongue.. but still aren't they cutting things close without much of a safety margin considering pot holes speed humps overweight and the like... I guess Chinese engineering is hitting America as well ??? and yes the tire load ratings are similarly slim as well.

Not Chinese engineering--good old American capitalism. Maximize profit by spending the least they can get away with. The RV industry has become especially bad about this since its consolidation into a handful of huge corporations.

Isn't that the same as Chinese Engineering ?

Actually a little Chinese Engineering might be what is needed to get these American Engineering a swift kick in the head and cause a little chaos
Kinda like when Datsun, Nisson, Toyota showed up and Detroit had to change.
Elkhart Indiana could use a reality check.....sooner the better

Yep! They are doing what Detroit did in the later 70’s early 80’s. If they don’t get their act together bad things will come there way!

    x2
that is why american auto makers had to step up their game to compete with toyota, honda, nissan etc.

now american made mid level cars are as reliable as japan's

  • YEP.........

Subtract trailer tongue weight from trailer axle rating
    Tongue weight 10% - 15%

Trailer tire ratings will be marginal also
  • Because 10% or more (depending on type of trailer) is not supported by the axles, it's supported by the tongue/pin.
