The "YET" part is what scares me. If the filter says tighten a certain amount after contact I do so. Honestly if a filter can be removed by hand after 5-15,000 miles that is loose IMHO.

Ron, tighten by hand the 3/4 turn past gasket contact, it is tight. I didn’t say it spun off easily at change. I wear a playtex rubber kitchen glove for heat resistance and better grip. I have been doing this way since an oil and filter change on Dad’s 59 Ford 352. Destroyed the spin on filter getting it off had gone on with clean oil on the gasket, and likely a full turn after gasket contact, that was about 1967,!
The 2001 ran 10k between changes.

Since mfg removed the plug on the torque converter, it's hard to remove ALL of the fluid. But if you do changes at the recomended interval, fluid should have plenty of life left in it and no contamination, so draining what you can and refilling should do fine.

I still have ONE vehicle with a drain plug on the torque converter. But that car transmission was introduced in 1990 and by 2000 the mfg had eliminated the torque converter drain plug.

By having to change the transmission fluid every 30k miles you're essentially doing a fluid exchange.

Sure glad I don't have to worry about having to perform that job every 30k miles IMHO.

Show me where they say NOT to do an exchange. Big difference between that and a mechanical flush.

BINGO......We have a winner!!!!!!!

To make it easier check fluid level before starting job. Measure amount removed from pan and replace the same volume then do the start run and refill exactly what has been pumped out.

I haven't had that issue but I'd try using a 1/2" impact gun turned down a bit.

Great suggestion, I have seen an impact wrench break loos a nut and using a breaker bar, would have snapped off.

When you do get it off don't over tighten the new one!
When I replace my oil filter on my Cummins, I only tighten the 3/4 turn after the gasket makes contact. I also use used oil in the gasket, can always remove by hand and not a leak yet.

I’ve got the Ford TorqShift with the external bypass filter in a housing and it’s quite frozen. Couldn’t crack it loose with a 1/2” rachet and didn’t want to break something. Thinking about trying to use a filter wrench on the filter housing along with the rachet on the end nut. Any tips?
