- 1jeepExplorer III did my 2011 at 100k which was also when I flushed the coolant.
- ib516Explorer IILooked like a pretty easy procedure to me. For the cost of the filter and fluid, and considering the cost of a new truck and/or trans repairs, I'd do it "early" if I owned one. If you have to pay a shop to do it because you lack the skill, or you're a penny pincher, you could leave it.

6R140 is a fantastic transmission but I don't know why he's changing the fluid so early. Ford recommends that this is not needed until 150K miles. To each his own I guess.
The Ford 6 speed has been around since 2011 in trucks and some people drive 20,000 miles per year and tow, so they would be due or past due for a trans service.
Its also never a bad idea to change the fluid early, 150,000 miles seem way to long.
The 6R140 has proven very reliable and many are way beyond 150,000 miles with no issues and I'm sure most of them are following Ford's service recommendation. If there were significant reports of transmission issues, I might buy into your argument, but don't try to fix what is not broken.
Changing the fluid in these trucks early will only hurt your wallet. I choose to change mine a bit early to avoid another trip to the dealer that may or may not pay off.
A bit off topic, but a friend at work has a 09 Super Duty and the transmission finally gave the ghost at a little over 250k miles. It still had the factory transmission oil in it. And no I don't recommend this practice.
All I have to say I'm sooooo glad I don't have to change the fluid every 30k miles anymore.- patriotgruntExplorer

To do it correctly, a hot flush needs to be done in order to replace all the fluid. The tranny holds 17 quarts. He put in 8 to 10.
Hot flush heats the fluid which opens the appropriate valve to ensure all fluid is drained. Typically done at the dealer.
Myself, I wouldn't go to all that work and only replace half the fluid. - GeoBoyExplorerIf Ford says 150k and you want to follow that recommendation, it's you truck do what you want. I would rather change sooner, it's my vehicle and my money.:p

Here we go, a typical xpert that does not even go by manufacturer recommendations.
i look at my trans stick about once a year. It still has like new looking juice that smells fine. 43K miles
Just for people's info, the guy in the video is (or was) a Ford technician. He may just be doing what the customer wants. It's not his truck - he drives a RAM 1500 EcoDiesel.
I don't know if that helps. Ford tech recommending service intervals not consistent with the mfg. So one could ask if they are overly conservative or selling unnecessary services. - ib516Explorer II

Ceded. Theoldwizard1 knows what he's talking about. However, I now have someone to blame for gallons of blood lost over the years and lots of bad words from removing and re-installing really hard to get to nuts and bolts, and sharp stuff that really looks like it's put there to cause harm on purpose! I would amend his statement, though. If you find more than expected debris in the drained fluid, I would recommend pulling the pan and seeing what else is in there. Changing the filter at this point would be a good idea.
And the reason he changed the fluids so early is that the customer wanted it done. He said that it an early fluid change.
