Travel Trailer ground clearance

I have a 34' Avion triple axle that sits fairly low to the ground. You won't find a better towing TT with it's low center of gravity. The problem is that the rear bumper can get hung up coming out of steep driveways.

It might be possible to be satisfied with a two step entry provided the rear overhang is very small which usually means that so is the trailer itself. It's a real pita to tow around a trailer that you have to constantly worry about grounding the rear bumper or even the plumbing

We have a new Fun Finder -- it had good ground clearance and then I flipped the axles -- now it has great clearance (for rocky forest roads) and I can easily get into the trailer, with the help of a forklift!

No, seriously, the step up is pretty daunting, especially for DW, who is five feet tall. We bring a little step-stool whenever we go camping.

My trailer can now go over anything that my Tacoma can go over. Slowly, though.

Yep, pretty much everything said here, I agree with. My funfinder is rather high up, has the flush slide and good ground clearance for the underside waste plumbing.
They chose to fit just a double step at the entry, but it really needs a triple, so I keep one of the platform steps with the folding legs for when camped.

My Springdale had 2 steps, my Outback has 3 steps. The Outback is higher off the ground. Towing? I can't tell the difference.

our tt is really low, just one slide out step then up one into the trailer

its great for getting in and out, but we do have to watch the sewer outlet sometimes

the lower height of course is better for towing

The TT model we have originally had a step-up slide and sat lower to the ground. There was a mid-year change to a flush slide which resulted in an increased height and going from 2 to 3 steps. We opted for the higher, flush slide model.
We go to some campgrounds where the driveways to the sites can be pretty rutted. I appreciate the increased ground clearance especially on the sewer outlet.

I noticed this on the Lance TT I looked at. It had about a 10" step to the slide.
I didn't like this at all but it did make the overall height of the trailer that much shorter.

The reason is that the entire floor is built above the fender wells instead of between them. THis makes lots of room for holding tanks underneath. There are some smaller or lighter TT's that still build between them (Lance).
I really prefer the greater height because it keeps low hanging parts from hitting things.
Generally when the trailer is set up the axles are oreiented to make it low. Flipping usually raises the trailer.
