Travis trailer vs 5 th wheel

We have a 28' 5th wheel. One short slide for the dinette. Two recliners in the rear. Great couples coach. Easy to maneuver anywhere. Hardly know it's back there when towing. I do think about trees but not any more than I think about anything else towing. It's just part of the game. I tow with a long bed truck and have close to 4' of space behind the cab to carry any gear that doesn't fit in the 5er basement. We had a 31' TT prior and as with most TT's, outside storage is tiny. We can get almost all of the camp items like lawn chairs, BBQ, rug, tables, etc in the front storage of our 5th wheel. Only thing that we have to put in the truck is a 4' ladder. We do mostly 2-4 day trips with 3-4 week long trips during the year. Reason to go TT next time is bang for the buck. You get more trailer for less money.
I have room for extra water jugs, firewood and more in the bed if we need it for longer trips. Bikes are on the rear of the 5th wheel. Kayaks are on top of the truck.
We would go back to a TT if we ever decide to change our camping plans. Reason would be to get more closet space for 1-2 month trips. right now for our short trips we have plenty of interior storage but would like more for longer trips.
As far as towing goes. A 5th wheel always wins hands down. They tow perfect from the 1st minute. A TT usually requires adjusting the WDH several times. No that big of a deal if you have a well matched truck and trailer. You do have a 5th hitch still in the truck bed when you're done but for me thats not a big deal. When we're done camping on our shorter trips we have virtually nothing to remove from the truck. 99% of all our camping gear is in the 5th wheel basement. When we had our TT we always had to load and unload everything that goes in the truck bed 4 times. Load up at the house, unload at the CG, load up at the CG and unload back home. Plus remove the WDH and spring bars and store them.
For us anyway a 5th wheel is easier to use.
Our situation isn't for everyone and may not work for everyone.

With a power jack (an absolute necessity in my opinion) and the Anderson hitch I can hook up a 3 minutes or less. No heavy bars, no lifting of anything but a small plate. I, too, was always worried about getting into service stations, restaurants, over head branches, with our fiver. TT is so much easier to back up and get in and out of places...but the trade off is space. My wife would go back to the fiver in a heartbeat because the high ceilings, more seperated bedroom, etc, but I love the ease of towing the TT.

26 foot trav trailer and we like to spend no less than a week (preferably 1month) before moving. We try to keep it simple with no "do-dads" but it's still work to hook up and get on the road. Years ago, we spent a month and a half in an A frame and it was simple set up in less than a couple of minutes and we moved almost every day. Those were the days !

The RV has to fit the needs of the owners.

We have a 25 ft. TT. It is big enough for two adults and a large dog, small enough to wind through city streets and hunt down a quilt shop.

We pull it with an F-150.

I have never heard of the trailer brand name of "Travis"

Good points all. I went back to a TT as I always felt like I was going to hit something with the higher fifth wheel. I did nit a few limbs. With an electric tongue jack and a tow vehicle that does not require a weight distributing hitch, hitching and unhitching can be quicker and easier with the TT. If I needed a huge trailer, I would probably go back to a fifth wheel for the shorter total length.

One consideration I always look for is a walk around bed. At our age we do not like to crawl over another person to go to the bathroom. Towing a TT is easy and no problem.

We just recently went from a 32' 5th wheel back to a 32.5' TT. 5th wheel trailers sway every bit as much as TT's in crosswinds and passing trucks. Difference is we don't feel it in the truck. I saw it in the mirrors with the 5th wheel. Our TT sways a little in crosswinds and passing trucks but not bad at all. Maybe an inch of correction on the steering wheel when a truck passes IF there's a crosswind. With a crosswind and constant trucks like I-75 can be, it can be annoying. With no wind, I very seldom feel them pass. We have a Reese HP trunion style WDH with cams integrated into the spring bars in case I someday feel the need for the dual cam arms. For now, we have no sway control on our hitch. I told my DW when we bought the TT, she can load anything she wants into the TT as long as it's in front of the axles. With a RL TT this is easy to do. I have no regrets going back to a TT.
For the ride, I much prefer the ride of towing a TT over the 5th wheel. No chucking or clunking.
Backing into a spot is easier with the TT in my experience due to the pivot point 5' behind the axle. Makes the trailer more reactive to steering inputs.
