Fir is moored near the western end of Eight Mile Road near Stockton, where the ferry crosses to Venice Island. I discovered it while on one of my where-does-that-road-go trips.
One island looks pretty much like another to me, so I had to check the map on this one. You were close, because Decker Island is only a few miles away. There are a lot of islands out there, and to me they look pretty much alike.
I'm used to San Diego County's land of little rain and was really amazed to see how much water there is in the Sacramento/San Joaquin Delta.
Right, I remember seeing ships moored there. The Delta is a amazing place and best explored from a boat. I have spent a lot of time fishing there and still have to check a map now and then. Too many times in winter I have had to follow the bread crumb trail of waypoints on a GPS I laid because the fog is so thick. Always got back to the launch but it takes a long time when you can't see 50 feet.
