Jun 13, 2018I recharged my old truck with one of those recharge cans and verified that the pressures were in spec with a set of real gauges. Sold it 3 years later still blowing cold. If you don't have a a set of gauges and don't want to buy any, then make sure to buy a can that has pressure indicator markings vs a simple green zone like ScottG pointed out.
I put all the windows down, run the fan on max, and put the AC on the coldest temperature. Normally pressures are checked at an elevated RPM so you'll need a helper to hold the truck at the specified RPM while you check and recharge. Also, the correct pressure is dependent on the ambient temperature. You'll need to get a hold of a pressure chart for the truck to figure out the proper pressure for the temperature outside.
