In many ways, my experience has been very different than yours. I bought my 1996 dodge Dsl truck (used) for $14000 in Feb 2001. Repairs (including transmission) about $5000, Upgrades (including 19.5s) about $4000. Total spent on truck about $23,000.
Bought 11.5' 1988 Bigfoot in Apr 2004, paid $1000. about $9,000 Upgrades to TC, including new or rebuilt appliances, solar, LEDs, 45 amp charger/converter, AGM battery, Honda 2000, A/C, Stable Lift, plus many odds and ends. Total on TC, about $10,000.
If truck and TC went into the trash, The truck would have cost me about $1770 per year and the TC $1000 per year. This is if neither was of any value today. From what I have seen, my truck sells for about $7000, and TC about $6000. Total worth if true is about $13,000. So, collectively the cost would be $20,000 if computed for only 10 years., or $2000 per year.
For five years, I lived in my TC four nights a week due to my job. To have rented an apartment, it would have cost me about $1200 per month, or about $1440 per year or $72,000 for 5 years. I'm thinking I made over $52,000 in the 5 years, and I got to use my TC over 10 years and it is still going.
I have no interest in staying in a hotel or motel sleeping in someone elses bed.
