I’m not exactly sure how we got here, but our “clowder” of traveling cats has increased by one. We now have a five month old female calico kitten with us. Calicos are like tortoise shells in that they are almost always female (XX chromosome), so they have that in common. We named her “Dixxie” as a reference to her genetics.
Dixxie has actually made the senior cat, Kahlua a lot happier. At 15 years old, Kahlua just wasn’t interested in playing with Selina at all. Now that Selina and Dixxie are playing with each other, Kahlua doesn't have to constantly be on the lookout for being ambushed by Selina.
We’re out traveling with them now, getting one last trip in for the year. Spent the night in Caprock Canyons State Park, near Quitaque (kitty-quay) Texas. We’re going to do some hiking today, then spend a few days driving around in southern NM, or wherever the weather lets us go.
The two young cats love each other’s company.
