Cranking for just a "split second" is a sign of a battery or starter issue, not fuel or fuel pump.
1. Remove, clean and retighten the battery cables.
2. After making sure the battery cables are clean and tight, get someone to give you a jump start. Once you hook up, wait at least 2 minutes before trying to start it. Do not shut it off until you get somewhere where you can change your batteries
3. If it still won't start, it might be the starter relay. Have someone turn the key while you tap on the starter with any available tool. If it starts, do not shut it off until you get to a place where you can get the starter replaced.
4. If the previous three steps haven't worked, time to call for a tow truck.
