Truck Grill Guard

Moved to Tow Vehicle forum from 5th Wheels.

These are manufactured for semi tractors as well as pu's and only weigh 80 lbs for a pu! Might be something closer to home for you to buy, and they aren't cheap.

Not sure why but the "grill guard" thing made me think of some to the outrageous vehicles in the Mad Max movies.

That's for sure!!!! LMAO...The Hill Country of Texas IS the worst for deer hits, that is for sure. We head down that way for the Winter and everyone has DOES have grill guards. Even the Subaru's.

Then there are cows, horses and elk... Lucky to live if you hit one at speed, no matter how stout your truck.

Yeah, I know that most of them are for looks but I am trying to get at least some protection. The better the guard the more weight.

Seems like everybody living in the Texas Hill Country has one. The Ranch hand brand is real popular there. They look pretty heavy duty in construction and weight. Most of the others look like added flash with no substance..

If you want real protection you will need a bumper like a Buckstop or Ranch hand. Those will truly protect your truck. With that also comes a weight price. They can be very heavy

I agree w/ this statement. Most grill guards are for looks. Look to see what semis have and try to get name off it. I have an Exguard (I think ) on my semi. Comes in 2 styles, full and partial. I have the full. Cannot attest to it's deer worthiness yet, but sure as shootin' if I didn't have it, I would hit a deer. Weighs in around 300 pounds.

My 2004 truck had a bolt on setup with wrap around the headlights.. Looked great... We travel the back roads alot here on the East-South part of the US and I guess the two bad encounters I had with deer were in Alabama and Arkansas...

In both cases the deer was knocked under the truck. It seems my two tow grab hooks did that for me not the grill... You certainly want the deer to go under the truck and not up on your windshield... I Arkansas I missed the first deer but the second one zero'ed in on me - no escape haha... It was pitch black no moon 11PM or so and I was only about 15-miles from a town so I kept going.. Pulled off when I got to some town lights to see what the damage was... Only thing I saw was deer 'feathers' around the front hooks. That late at night i guess the deer was running from dogs perhaps...

My new 2010 truck doesn't have the guard yet... I'm still planning on getting one...
