By the time you put some airbags and D or E rated tired on a 1/2 ton the ride isn't that much different than a 3/4 ton, especially the new coil rear Ram.
I DD'd my SRW 3500 for years and it's a comfortable ride, which is nothing like newer trucks.
You got a trailer for the future, get a truck for the future too.
Way too many people do way too much with 1/2 tons.
As far as the EcoBoost all of the reviews I have read state that it's a good empty or occasional towing motor but if you tow regularly get the NA 5.0, it will get better mileage towing and is only short a few hp which isn't noticed.
