Truck of the Year

Granted it is from a car mag.

I'm really excited about these trucks, could be just the thing for my little trailer and little garage.

  • I have friend pulling a 19' Jayco with one of those that has the inline 5 cylinder. It's no torque monster, but it does fine for the 6-10 weekends they go away each year. GM is supposed to be dropping a mini Duramax into these trucks, so we'll see if the ratings go up and it gives people something consider over the Class 1 diesel trucks that are on the market.

I loved my Mazda B2200 with a Perkins diesel back in the 80's - It used to tow a Scamp through the Sierras. I'm glad we're seeing smaller trucks with diesels come back into favor.
  • Auto Guide just released their Truck of the Year. 2015 Ford F150. GM minii 1/2 tons came in 2nd.

    Indicates a 1600# payload & 7,000# tow rating with the v-6 engine.

    Both more than my 1500.

I would like a smaller truck for several reasons, my garage is small, I have to touch the front wall to get the door shut and if I leave my hitch in it won't close, easy parking, and I just like it. I'm not a diesel guy but the baby D-max is coming next year and will supposedly get 30MPG and have around 370 ft lb of torque, thats almost as much as the 5.3l, granted less HP, but it should do nicely in the Colorado.

I know it is not for everyone but I say good for you GM for bringing back the mid size truck, and doing it so well.

Why buy a small truck when trucks like the Ford eco and Ram eco diesel get as good or better fuel economy, haul more, larger more comforrtable interiors and better ride? Just dont see a need for mid sized trucks in todays market place. Am I missing something, or did GM lay another goose egg?

Agree with don....this truck isn't a 1/2 ton truck, correct? I would imagine it could tow a pop- up or a very small TT, but don't see how they could have tow ratings that of a 1/2 ton. Doesn't seem like a fair comparison...I would think you would compare it to whatever other trucks are in it's class...F150 would compare to 1500's, not a smaller truck...doesn't make a lot of sense to me...:h

  • I hope it does well for GM. Although the timing is probably not the best now that fuel prices are way down. People who may have been looking smaller may decide to go larger unless prices go back up soon.
