How often are you planning on towing?
And you really need to figure out what trailers you want and get a better idea of weights. My 24' travel trailer weighs close to 6000 lbs.
If you end up with a 6 or 7000 lb trailer, you will be much more comfortable and safe in a 3/4 ton truck.
A bit lighter trailer that you are not planning on towing often, a 1/2 ton truck may get you by fine.
A Ford with the 3.5 turbo tows decent, but a conventional non turbo v6 is underpowered to tow a travel trailer. I would opt
for a v8. I towed with a GMC 1500 with a 4.3 v6 and even towing a smaller 15' travel trailer really made that v6 work hard.
I have an F350 now and towing my newer larger trailer is much more comfortable and I can have confidence that the truck is more than enough to handle my trailer.
There is a trade off, my v6 GMC got 19mpg, my F350 gets 12-13mpg.
