Ford F150 now offers a 3.0 liter diesel in a half ton PU. So does RAM 1500. I have a RAM 1500 with 3.0 diesel that I towed a 6,250 lbs 29' TT. Recently changed to 5,300 lbs 24' TT. There is a noticeable difference towing the two trailers. I wouldn't recommend going over 6,000 lbs. with a half ton truck. One benefit of half ton with small diesel is fuel consumption. I get 20-22 city and 28-30 highway not towing. Towing 5,300 TT I get 13-14 mpg going 70 mph.
